Spelling List!

Each student should have gotten a spelling list on Monday. Please practice the words at night. Their spelling test will be on Fridays.

Papers Coming Home!

Please look over the papers that come home with your child. There will be a vareity from community education, practice papers, and papers we have done in class. Please look over the papers with your child, as I may have wrote comments on their homework. After each unit in math, a DPP (Daily Practice Problem packet) will be coming home. Some of these problems will be done, and other will not. This is a great opportunity for extra math practice! If your child would like to do them for practice and bring them back, I would be happy to look over them! Some of these problems may be challenging for your child, while others will be easy.

These are my wonderful 2nd graders! We are getting back into the routine of school. Each and every day they look forward to come to school and come in with a smile on their face. Hopefully it will cool down soon, so we can continue working on our routine! Thank you all for being patient and flexible on these early out days!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year! I am very excited for this year and a new group of students. Here is a little about me. I am married and am expecting a baby in February. This is my 5th year teaching, but only my 2nd year at Storm Lake Elementary School. I love to come to school each day and see each of the students and help them grow. I look forward to meeting all of you at welcome conferences. I hope you are ready for a great year!

Body Time!!!!

To help students with time, we made different times with our bodies. The shorter student was the hour hand because the hour hand is shorter, and  the taller student was the minute hand. The other students then had  to figure our what time the two students were showing!

Brush Your Teeth!

During our teeth unit, we did an experiment! We took hard boiled eggs and left them in coke overnight. The next day we  tried to clean  them with our toothbrush. This taught us how important it is to brush our teeth because it is hard to get the plaque off.

Ewww! Gross! Cool!  Wow!

Today the 2nd graders were able to dissect cow eyes with Nurse Twyla and some Iowa Central Nursing Students! The kids got to actually see the parts and feel them. A cow eye is very similar to a human eye! The kids had many reactions but thought it was a great experience!
