Body Time!!!!

To help students with time, we made different times with our bodies. The shorter student was the hour hand because the hour hand is shorter, and  the taller student was the minute hand. The other students then had  to figure our what time the two students were showing!

What time are we?

Can you tell what time we are?

Brush Your Teeth!

During our teeth unit, we did an experiment! We took hard boiled eggs and left them in coke overnight. The next day we  tried to clean  them with our toothbrush. This taught us how important it is to brush our teeth because it is hard to get the plaque off.

My teeth are whiter than this egg!

Scrubbing the plaque of our eggs! It was a tough job!

Eye Dissection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ewww! Gross! Cool!  Wow!
Today the 2nd graders were able to dissect cow eyes with Nurse Twyla and some Iowa Central Nursing Students! The kids got to actually see the parts and feel them. A cow eye is very similar to a human eye! The kids had many reactions but thought it was a great experience!

Santa's Castle

What a wonderful time at Santa's Castle!  When we arrived we were greeted by Santa. The kids loved looking at the train and all of the trees. We counted nutcrackers and snowmen.  There were a total of 65 nutcrackers and 33 snowmen!  Each child got to visit with Santa and tell him what they wanted to for Christmas.  I was even lucky enough to sit on Santa's lap!  Santa gave our class a book, A Christmas Carol. We will begin reading it next week!

2nd Graders have been busy!

We have been busy these last couple of weeks. We have been learning about our eyes and ears and how to keep them healthy. We have been busy writing and using our skills to tell fun stories! Continue reading at home and filling out your Tornado Reading Counts! This week we will be going to Santa's Castle with our PIE partners! Pictures will be coming!  We would also like to welcome our new student, Poe!  He is a great addition to our classroom!

In the month of December, we are working on showing good character (all the pillars). If a student shows good character, their name is put into a drawing and towards the middle of the month they could win a SLES shirt!  Keep up the good work 2nd grade!
